Job Description: Dispensary Technician
We are currently seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Dispensary Technician to join our team. As a Dispensary Technician, you will play a crucial role in supporting the operations of our dispensary by assisting pharmacists in dispensing medications, maintaining inventory, and providing exceptional customer service to patients. Responsibilities:
Medication Dispensing: Assist pharmacists in accurately dispensing prescription medications to patients, following established protocols and procedures. Prepare medication orders, label prescriptions, and ensure that patients receive the correct medication, dosage, and instructions for use.
Inventory Management: Monitor and maintain inventory levels of medications and supplies in the dispensary. Perform regular stock checks, restock shelves, and rotate inventory to ensure freshness and compliance with expiration dates. Place orders for medications and supplies as needed.
Patient Assistance: Provide friendly and knowledgeable customer service to patients, answering questions, addressing concerns, and assisting with medication-related inquiries. Ensure that patients understand how to take their medications properly and provide counseling as needed.
Medication Reconciliation: Assist in medication reconciliation processes, including reviewing medication lists, identifying discrepancies, and communicating with healthcare providers to resolve discrepancies and ensure accurate medication records.
Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of medication dispensing activities, including patient information, prescription details, and inventory transactions. Enter data into electronic health records (EHR) or pharmacy management systems accurately and efficiently.
Quality Assurance: Adhere to quality assurance standards and regulatory requirements governing medication dispensing and pharmacy operations. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and assist in maintaining compliance with pharmacy policies and procedures.
Safety and Security: Follow safety protocols and procedures to ensure the safe handling, storage, and disposal of medications and hazardous materials. Comply with security measures to prevent medication diversion and unauthorized access to controlled substances.
Requirements:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Completion of a pharmacy technician training program or certification as a pharmacy technician preferred.
Certification/Licensure: Certification as a Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) preferred. State registration or licensure as a pharmacy technician may be required depending on local regulations.
Experience: Previous experience as a pharmacy technician or in a healthcare-related role preferred. Familiarity with pharmacy operations, medication terminology, and pharmaceutical calculations.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in using pharmacy software systems, electronic health records (EHR), and other computer applications. Ability to operate dispensing equipment and perform basic mathematical calculations.
Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication and customer service skills. Ability to interact professionally with patients, pharmacists, healthcare providers, and other team members.
